Tremayne House

Tremayne House, nestled near the serene Helford River in Cornwall, offers a tranquil and picturesque retreat that feels like a step back in time. Surrounded by ancient woodland, wild gardens, and the gentle hush of the river, a stay here is an invitation to immerse yourself in the timeless beauty of the Cornish countryside. Our vacation was to be spent in the delightful Trepigge Cottage.

Trepigge Cottage

The Helford River is just a short walk away, where winding creeks, mossy footpaths, and hidden coves await. It’s a place made for quiet exploration - whether by boat, on foot, or simply from a sun-dappled bench with a good book. Mornings at Tremayne House begin with birdsong and the soft light filtering through tall trees. You might start your day with a walk through the estate’s private woodland paths, or venture further to discover the tranquil Frenchman’s Creek, made famous by Daphne du Maurier. The scent of salt and fern is ever-present, and the river’s tide sets a peaceful rhythm.

Afternoons invite leisurely activities: paddleboarding or kayaking on the still waters, picnicking by the riverbanks, or visiting nearby gardens like Glendurgan and Trebah, each lush with subtropical flora and rich Cornish history.

Trepigge Cottage is a picture of rustic charm - think slate floors, beamed ceilings, and soft, warm lighting. The interior is cosy yet stylish, with a wood-burning stove perfect for cooler evenings and large windows that frame the meadow like a living painting. Whether you’re curled up with a book or sharing a slow breakfast at the farmhouse table, everything about this place invites you to relax. Step outside, and you’ll find a private garden that opens onto the meadow. Marvin and Flint, your four-legged neighbours, are often seen gently munching grass or watching curiously as you pass by. Their quiet presence adds something uniquely grounding to the stay - like being part of a peaceful, slower world.

Trepigge is proudly dog-friendly, making it an ideal retreat for guests who want to share their Cornish escape with their furry companions. The surrounding countryside is a patchwork of footpaths, wooded trails, and quiet lanes, perfect for long walks straight from the doorstep.

Tucked just across the courtyard from Trepigge Cottage, The Apple Loft is a beautifully converted stone barn that offers an idyllic countryside escape for two. With views across fields, a private, peaceful setting, and thoughtful touches throughout, this charming bolthole blends rustic charm with modern comfort—perfect for couples or solo travellers seeking a quiet base to explore Cornwall. On the ground floor, you’ll find a bright and comfortable double bedroom with a well-appointed en suite shower room. Thoughtfully decorated and finished to a high standard, the space offers a restful spot to wake up slowly to birdsong and the gentle sounds of the countryside. Enter up the staircase into the open-plan first-floor living space, where soft textures, and warm tones create an inviting, airy atmosphere. A log burner sits at the heart of the room, perfect for snuggling up after a blustery walk along the coast or a crisp morning ramble through nearby meadows.. The kitchen provides a great space for creating some delicious dishes and is equipped to a very high standard.

The Apple Loft is ideal for those looking to escape the noise and pace of everyday life. And with Marvin and Flint, the friendly horses grazing just over the fence, and Trepigge Cottage nearby (perfect if you’re travelling with friends or family staying there), it has a lovely feeling of being part of a peaceful little hamlet - yet completely self-contained.
