A Room With A View - St Pancras Clock Tower

So a milestone birthday deserved a stay somewhere different from the usual hotel break and so I turned to Airbnb for some inspiration for a quirky location and then a familiar piece of architecture caught my eye, one that I had seem many times when I had visited London by train...St Pancras Clock Tower. Hang on a minute, you can actually stay in the clock tower?

Yes, the clock tower is open for business for you to spend some quality time admiring the views over London town and for £200 for up to four guests it's an absolute bargain.

Peter, the host of this stunning apartment was a pleasure to deal with making the arrangements very simple without any issues. After entering in the main reception area to the hotel and collecting the key from the concierge, you take the lift to the 4th floor to be greeted by a beautiful long corridor  that leads down to the entrance to the clock tower.

The apartment is in the clock tower above St Pancras International Station. This is one of two double bedrooms in the apartment, the other one being a self-contained guest suite normally occupied by other Airbnb guests. A ten metre high room in the tower was spectacular with a book case on the higher level and it looks out on many of London's landmarks such as St Paul's Cathedral and the Shard, which we also included a visit to on this trip. A large kitchen on the top floor looks out over Kings Cross Station.

The clock tower was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott like a church bell tower but never held bells. The clock never has and does not ring, so your sleep will not be disturbed. We made use of the fabulous sound system that played music from our iPhone into the main sitting room. It really is a unique experience that you must try out at least once.

In 1996, the memorable music video for the Spice Girls' debut hit Wannabe was filmed in the entrance and main staircase of this building. The flat retains some of its original 19th century features including an iron staircase and long wooden beams.
